BOOBOOK ECOLOGICAL CONSULTING
Fauna spotting and relocation
Fauna spotting and relocation
You can protect biodiversity when you know what species are present at a site and exactly where these are located.
Our qualified and experienced fauna spotters work with resources and construction companies to help minimise impacts on biodiversity.
By finding and relocating native wildlife during land clearing and infrastructure installation activities, they play a vital role in protecting species and ensuring you meet your regulatory requirements.

Our approach
At Boobook Ecological Consulting, our knowledgeable and experienced fauna spotters:
- Identify fauna habitats prior to clearing, such as shelter places (e.g. logs, hollow trees, rock piles) and active breeding sites (e.g. nests or pools with tadpoles)
- Remain on hand for advice during grazing, dozing and trenching activities
- Can provide guidance on minimising negative impacts from clearing
- Provide advice and first aid for injured or orphaned animals found on construction sites
- Help you meet your reporting requirements by providing either:
- a simple spreadsheet of captures/relocations,
- or a comprehensive report summarising all fauna management activities completed on-site, including details of animals captured and relocated, any incidents and photographs.
Our team has all the necessary permits and licences to conduct fauna spotting in Queensland. We are prequalified with many resource and construction companies and up-to-date with numerous mining and construction industry inductions, meaning we can get in and get the job done straight away.
With zero Lost Time Incidents (LTIs) from the inception of our business, Boobook Ecological Consulting’s fauna spotters are safe and care for themselves, the team they are working with, their equipment and of course the wildlife.

Snake relocation
Have you ever had an uninvited visitor in your cupboard, car or laundry?
Snakes are magnificent native Australian creatures, but they can sometimes find their way into areas a little bit too close to home.
Boobook Ecological Consulting offers snake identification, capture and relocation services within the Roma and Maranoa area of southern inland Queensland. If you notice a snake in your home, leave it alone and call one of our friendly team to help:
What should I do if I see a snake?
Seeing a snake in or around your home can catch you off guard. Here are some tips on what to do if you spot one:
- Don’t panic – stay calm. Fast movement and lots of commotion (e.g. waving arms and legs or running around screaming) can provoke snakes.
- Leave it be. Back away to a safe distance and allow the snake to move away by itself. Snakes will usually try to escape when disturbed.
- Don’t try to kill the snake or interfere with it, as that’s when most people get bitten.
- If the snake is in your house, keep watching it but keep well clear of it. Try to create a direct exit route out of the house for the snake by closing off other rooms and cupboards. Block gaps underneath doors with rolled up towels and open up external doors to create a direct escape route. If it doesn’t leave, call a snake catcher.

We offer a professional snake catching service
- Our snake catching service operates mainly in and around the Roma town area, but we do attend callouts in neighbouring towns and properties on request.
- We hold a Damage Mitigation Permit issued by the Queensland Department of Environment and Science. This licence allows us to remove and relocate snakes if they pose a safety risk.
- Snakes are wild animals, and unfortunately we cannot always guarantee their capture. For example, they may disappear down a hole, under an inaccessible building or be gone before our snake catcher arrives. To help us capture them:
- Keep watching the snake, so that when we arrive we know where it is and can catch it as quickly as possible.
- Isolate and contain the snake, if you can do so safely, by closing it in a room and blocking off escape holes and door gaps with a rolled-up towel.
- Keep calm. Keep noise, vibrations and movement to a minimum as this will assist the snake to calm down and not get aggressive.
- Keep children, bystanders and pets away.
- Remember, not all snakes are dangerous so please call us with your enquiry and we will endeavour to assist.
- Please note, fees apply for our snake catching service.
Tips on reducing the likelihood of snakes in your house and yard
To reduce the likelihood of snake encounters around the home, school, office, workshop or farm:
- Keep grass mowed around houses, sheds and other buildings.
- Where possible, reduce the number of places snakes may hide – tidy up wood/branch piles, sheets of tin, old car bodies and other rubbish.
- Avoid leaving rubbish, animal feed and food scraps out that attract rats and mice which in turn attract snakes.
- Aviaries, chicken pens and ceiling spaces also attract snakes looking for food. Block holes and use fine wire mesh to prevent snakes from gaining access.
