BOOBOOK ECOLOGICAL CONSULTING
About

Local ecological knowledge informed by global contexts
Boobook Ecological Consulting has built its success on decades of first-hand knowledge of the natural ecosystems of the southern Queensland drylands, combined with practical understanding of the complex pressures that impinge on Australia’s fragile environment.
Founders Craig and Meryl Eddie are both ecologists and have a highly-respected team of botanists, zoologists, GIS mapping specialists and environmental scientists.
As long-time locals in the Roma and Carnarvon regions, Craig and Meryl have considerable hands-on experience, and continue to discover new and endangered species.
The company was founded in 2000 and has established a highly-respected reputation for its meticulous scientific advice to business clients, government bodies and community organisations.
Our team’s contribution to ecological discovery
- Produced over 900 ecological assessments for mining and construction industries, agriculture and government sectors
- Undertook dozens of research projects, including establishing habitat of the critically-endangered white-throated snapping turtle, vulnerable yakka skink and Dunmall’s snake
- Established hundreds of new distribution records and range extensions for native plants and animals
- Discovered new plant species and well over 50 new species of land snail
- Safely captured and relocated thousands of native animals from construction sites
- Led regular research expeditions for special-interest and public groups (through Boobook Ecotours)
- Donated thousands of specimens to the Queensland Herbarium and Queensland Museum for research purposes
